Local Mode is a version of the sensor that produces a payload that can be decoded and used locally, without uploading to the Sensoterra Cloud. This is relevant for situations where the LoRaWAN network or platform cannot be linked to the internet for example in remote areas without connectivity, or for security reasons if for example sensor data is not allowed to leave the network.

Local Mode
The local mode sensor sends a payload which can be decoded on the LoRaWAN network, which means the values can be used directly in any platform/application, without being routed through the Sensoterra cloud.
Soil Calibration
Standard setting for the Local Mode sensors is ‘uncalibrated’ providing a relative, uninterpreted value of 0-100. By sending a downlink to the sensor, it can use the on-board calibrations, providing Volumetric Water Content percentage (VWC%) for the specific soil type. This can only be adjusted by sending another downlink.
The encoder and decoder will be made available.
Why get Sensoterra Cloud Services?
If more support on soil types, data interpretation, and support is needed, the sensors can be upgraded to Sensoterra Cloud Services including:
- Plug & Play installation
- 50+ standard calibrations
- Unlimited Support
- Standard Open API

Here's how it works
The Local Mode Sensor
The Sensoterra Local Mode sensor is a simplified version of the Sensoterra solution. Its purpose is to be a low-cost, fully customizable sensor, with raw data to be built into existing platforms, decoded, without API integration. The sensor comes without Sensoterra Cloud Mode. If Cloud Mode services are needed, this can be enabled by Sensoterra.
Cloud Mode
- Access to complete Soil Calibration Library (50+)
- Data interpretation & thresholds
- Technical Support
- Soil calibration support
- Best-in-class API integration
Local Mode
- Relative values 0-100%
[OR] - On-board calibrations
- Fully Customizable
- For Private LoRaWAN Networks
- Upgradeable to Cloud Mode
